A virtual format, necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, didn’t keep Ashby Floyd from a stellar performance at the recent USA Weightlifting Youth National Championships.

The 15-year-old, who trains with McDonough-based Floyd Farms Weightlifting, finished second in the U.S. in the 14- and 15-year-old division at 81 kilograms with an overall lift of 220 kilograms (485 pounds). He earned a gold medal with the top snatch lift of 103 kilograms (227 pounds), a personal best, and also claimed a silver medal in the clean and jerk at 117 kilograms (258 pounds), also a personal best.
