Scenes from tailgate parties around the UGA campus before the start of the Missouri at Georgia football game on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019 in Athens.

Tailgating will not be permitted on the University of Georgia campus for the 2020 college football season, the school announced Tuesday.

Officials cited the current COVID-19 pandemic for the decision to ban tailgating. It was reached after discussion with public health guidelines and counsel provided by UGA health officials. It is consistent with the approach taken by other SEC schools, including Alabama, Florida, LSU, Auburn and Ole Miss.
