Outlook: Locust Grove has big aspirations for the 2018 season, and Friday night’s matchup against No. 3 Warner Robins will be act as a barometer for just how good the Wildcats can be.

The Demons are one of the top teams in Class AAAAA, fresh off a 14-1 record and a trip to the state championship game a season ago. Quarterback Dylan Fromm, brother of University of Georgia standout Jake Fromm, threw for 441 yards and scored four total touchdowns last week in a 40-29 win over Tift County. He completed passes to nine different receivers, including Marcayll Jones who caught seven balls for 153 yards.

Loucst Grove will field an experienced and talented defense this season. That unit will face its first real test Friday night.

“Warner Robins is an explosive team offensively with one of the top quarterbacks in the state,” Locust Grove head coach Clint Satterfield said. “Defensively, they are very sound and big. They beat a top 10 team in (Class) AAAAAAA last week in Tift County. We just want to play the best competition to get us ready for the region. By playing Jackson, Warner Robins and Camden County early, we will be battle-tested and ready for region play. Certainly a win this week would mean a lot for our confidence.”

Locust Grove is coming off their own big win last week. The Wildcats pounded Jackson 42-6 behind 130 yards rushing from Cade Powell and two passing touchdowns by RJ McDaniel. Logan Smith led a staunch defensive effort with 13 tackles and a defensive touchdown.

The Wildcats will need to replicate those performances this week to have a chance at upsetting the Demons.

“We are a 3-plus touchdown underdog to win this game, we will have to play mistake free football,” Satterfield said. “Last year we lost 20-3 down there and had multiple turnovers and five empty trips to the red zone due to penalties. We can’t do that if we want to come out on top.”
