Wesley Simpson was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week.

AUGUSTA The Peach Belt Conference released its weekly basketball honors with Georgia College sophomore Wesley Simpson earning the PBC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Simpson nearly reached triple-double status as the Bobcats opened conference play with a road win at UNC Pembroke. The sophomore guard poured in a career-best 21 points with 11 rebounds and eight assists as GC opened league play with a 67-64 win.

Simpson hit 7-of-12 shots from the field (.583), 4-of-5 from three-point range and 3-of-4 from the line. He turned in his second-straight double-double and scored nine of GC’s final 11 points in the game. Simpson is currently sixth in the PBC in rebounding and seventh in assists.

The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, Dec. 19 at 3:30 p.m., playing host to Flagler College.
