Florida has paused basketball activities for one week because of COVID-19 and won't play its first two scheduled games, the school confirmed Sunday.

The school statement cited "positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing protocols" as the reason for the cancellations.

The Gators were scheduled to play Massachusetts-Lowell on Wednesday and No. 4 Virginia on Friday at "College Basketball Bubbleville" at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn. They now are slated to open their season on Dec. 2 at Oklahoma.

COVID-19 is affecting more than just the Gators.

Washington canceled its Husky Classis four-team tournament because of COVID-19 shutdowns. The event was to have included the Huskies, Portland State, Cal State Fullerton and San Diego, but the latter two schools have shut down their programs for now.

In all, more than 30 college basketball programs currently are halted because of the virus.
