The second half of the gospel of John begins with chapter 12, which covers the last week of Jesus’ life leading up to His resurrection. Here we read of Jesus being anointed by Mary who poured a pint of expensive perfume on His feet and dried them with her hair. When one of His disciples complained it was a waste, Jesus said, ”Leave her alone,” indicating this was done for His burial.

After these things Jesus made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem with great crowds of people shouting “Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.” Later Jesus predicted His death, “The hour has come for the son of man to be glorified. I came for this hour. Father, glorify your Name. Then a voice came from heaven saying I have glorified it.”
