In 1979, President Jimmy Carter declared June as African American Music Appreciation Month.  This month celebrates the African American musical influences that comprise an essential part of our nation’s treasured cultural heritage. 

On May 31, the White House release a Proclamation on Black Music Appreciation Month 2022 with President Joe Biden writing “perhaps no music has had as profound and powerful an impact in shaping America’s musical score as Black music.”
