Hampton junior Daniel Roberts becomes state champion in triple jump on Day 1 of boys track finals

HAMPTON — In south metro Atlanta, where football reigns and basketball threatens to capture the throne, dreams of the NFL and NBA flourish. But it’s not every day that you stumble upon an athlete who aspires to be an Olympian.

Meet Daniel Roberts. All season, the junior from Hampton High School has been working toward one lofty goal — ownership of the state record in the 110-meter hurdles, which was set in 1997 by Southwest Dekalb’s Terrance Trammell.
