First Day Hikes offer a healthy way to usher in the new year at Georgia's state parks

Could there be a better way to kick off 2024 than with a little exercise on New Year’s Day? And perhaps the best way to welcome the new year would be to become part of the First Day Hikes movement in Georgia.

A national initiative to encourage people to get out and explore the great outdoors, First Day Hikes have been offered at Georgia’s state parks for more than a decade. On New Year’s Day in 2023, there were more than 51 hikes offered across 47 sites in Georgia, with 1,797 hikers participating.
