Former Hampton mayor vies for BOC chairmanship

Tommy Smith

Declaring that its clearly time for a new chairman and new leadership, the former mayor of Hampton, Tommy N. Smith, announced Thursday that he will challenge incumbent Elizabeth B.J. Mathis in the Republican primary for Chairman of the Henry County Board of Commissioners.

Chairman Mathis is lurching from one bad, rushed decision to another, said Smith, also a Republican. She rushed a closed-door decision of a sitting county commissioner without public input, and in direct violation of Henry Countys laws.
