GSP Investigating Incident Where Hampton Police Officer Struck By Vehicle

HAMPTON — The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a Monday night incident in which a Hampton Police officer was struck and critically injured while directing traffic, HPD Chief Bo Turner said during a Tuesday press conference.

Turner said Duane Jones, who has been a law enforcement officer for 18 years, was hit by a vehicle along U.S. Highway 19/41 near Woolsey Road at about 10:30 Monday night as he was directing traffic for a Georgia Department of Transportation paving project. After being struck, he was transported by air to Grady Memorial Hospital.
