Henry Herald purchased by company executive Mike Gebhart

McDONOUGH — Veteran newspaper executive Mike Gebhart has purchased the majority ownership in Southern Community Newspapers Inc., parent company of the Henry Herald and six sister newspapers, along with digital operations consisting of a number of related websites.

Gebhart purchased the newspapers and web operations from a New York-based private equity firm that has owned the majority stake in the company since 2008. Gebhart has been chief operating officer and executive vice president of SCNI since 2007. Other newspapers in the group include the Gwinnett Daily Post, Albany Herald, Clayton News-Daily, Rockdale Citizen, Newton Citizen and Jackson Progress-Argus.
