McDONOUGH — The new Henry County Schools Performing Arts Center — Fairview construction is well under way though the weather has been a challenge.

Substantial completion was expected to be in December; however, the timeline has been pushed to the spring due to rain.

Though, according to Josh Malcom, executive director of Facilities & Maintenance, the PAC’s opening is still on track for the spring.

“We’re making good progress,” he said. “There’s more activity going on inside than out. We do have dry areas we can work in when it’s raining.”

The $17.1 million facility sits on 19 acres adjacent to Fairview Elementary School. It will be paid for using SPLOST V funds.

The new PAC will seat 1,000 and offer up-to-date equipment and balcony seating. The new parking lot will alleviate parking problems at Fairview Elementary and offer two exit and entry points on Fairview Road and Rex Road.

Once complete, district officials will begin renovation at the existing performing arts center on Lemon Street in McDonough. The facility will receive backstage enhacements. Work is expected to begin in August.
