Mary Y. Parker Mary Y. Parker (Mrs. Homer M.) entered into rest after a brief illness on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at the age of 97. She was very active in many community and civic organizations. A member of the First Baptist Church of Forest Park, Mary was proud to attain perfect attendance for 21 years, she served on several committees at the church including president three times of the Woman’s Missionary Union, and president of the VIP Club for 10 years. Mary was active in P.T.A. and served as president 12 times. In 1965, Mary was declared Mrs. P.T.A. Clayton County. She also was chairman for six years of the Georgia Congress of Parents and Teachers Committee and served as president of the Clayton County Council P.T.A. In 1957, Mary was made Life Member Georgia Congress of Parents and Teachers Officer of 8th District P.T.A. Mary was a Past Matron of Forest Park Chapter #290, Order of the Eastern Star, where she was active for more than 50 years. She was also a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and worked with the training committee for Tara District Scouts. Mary served on the Clayton County Juvenile Protection Committee under the direction of Judge Ed Camp. She was also a member of the Clayton County Dept. of Family and Children Services Board for 29 years, and Vice Chairman part of this time. She served as a Board Member of the State Dept. Family and Children Services during Carl E. Sanders’ term as Governor. She was a Charter Member of the State Economic Opportunity Advisory Committee. Mary also served on Clayton County Bicentennial Steering Committee, Forest Park Library Board and Clayton County Board Girl Scouts in Forest Park. Mary worked the poles for Election of Government Officials. Mayor Charles Summerday presented her the Key to the City in April 1976. Mary served on the Forest Park mothers Council Associate DeMolay Chapters of Georgia. She was also an active member of the Forest Park Woman’s Club, and Past President of Taraettes Auxiliary of the Tara Shrine Club #20 Clayton County, Ga. Mary worked in a variety of volunteer capacities including Director of Homebound Dept. for 52 years, for the First Baptist Church of Forest Park. She continued to visit in the Homebound. Mary’s wishes are to be remembered as a humble servant seeking God’s will in her life; a loving and caring wife and mother. Mary was preceded in death on Feb. 25, 1998 by her loving and caring husband, Homer Madison Parker, Sr. Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Homer Madison Parker, Jr. and George Terry (Genny) Parker of Brooks; grandsons, Eric, Brooks, and Allen Parker; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Funeral Home from 1 p.m., to 4 p.m., and 6 p.m., to 8 p.m. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 13, at the First Baptist Church of Forest Park.
