Voters showed their support, Tuesday, for Republicans vying for seats in the State Senate and State House of Representatives.

Former Henry County Commissioner Rick Jeffares, 46, appeared to have secured more votes than the former chairman of the Henry County Democratic Party, Jim Nichols , 30, of Stockbridge, to become the state senator for Georgia's 17th district. With 97 percent of precincts reporting Wednesday morning, Jeffares received 42,223 votes, or 62.8 percent of the vote total, while Nichols garnered 25,011 votes, or 37.2 percent, according to the Secretary of State's web site.
