SOCIAL CIRCLE — Commercial fishermen can take to the water beginning at midnight on Jan. 1 to take advantage of the opening day of shad season, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division. Shad season is scheduled to run through midnight on March 31.

“Fishing effort was down a bit in the 2021 season, but for many shad fishermen it ended up being a pretty good season,” WRD Senior Fisheries Biologist Jim Page said in a news release. “We’ll see what 2022 brings, but we are hopeful for a good shad run this season.”
