I don’t think I’ve described our kittens. June is the oldest. She’s a beautiful 8-month tortoise-shell who is a plump 11 pounds because she eats too much. We think it’s because, when she was very young, the adult cats kept her from the food and she was starving.

When we began letting her stay in the garage she was so thin we could see her ribs from across the garage. She was small enough to rest in the palm of one hand. Now she’s active but sedate. We’ve managed to teach her to stay away from the food we eat, to accept “no” as “no,” and to respect our privacy. But she’s still a kitten and her play fighting, stalking and chasing with Boots still devastates parts of the house — those parts with clutter.
