It is hard for me to think of a job I might desire less than to be the United States speaker of the House. Third in line for the presidency, the gig comes with a very nice office and comp package, large staff, and almost unlimited VIP travel. And perhaps by the time you are reading this, the U.S. House will have elected a new speaker, two weeks after a small handful of GOP hardliners helped House Democrats stage a coup and remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R- Calif.

As of this writing, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has failed to be elected on the first ballot attempt receiving the vote of 200 House Republicans, with all 212 Democrats voting against him and 20 GOP members also joining Democrats.
