MORROW – As the nation begins to recover from the educational disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, a new collaborative effort aims to address lingering literacy challenges in Clayton County. Dr. Andrea Carter, a retired educator and bestselling author, has announced a partnership with Morrow Elementary School to launch the "ReadRise Literacy Program." This innovative pilot program, which will run for September - December, seeks to mitigate the significant literacy losses experienced by students during the pandemic. The initiative will focus on a comprehensive literacy curriculum designed to enhance students' fluency, decoding, comprehension, and analytical skills.

The latest report from Harvard and Stanford Universities reveals a mixed picture of progress in American schools. After three years of decline, recent data indicates that reading and math scores have stopped falling and are beginning to recover. However, many schools, including those in Clayton County, are still grappling with scores that remain below pre-pandemic levels.
