NASCAR: Toyota Owners 400

NASCAR Cup Series driver Martin Truex Jr. (19) races NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin (11) at Richmond International Raceway on April 18, 2021.

For the first time since the inception of the ‘elimination-style’ format to decide the NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2014, the trophy rites will be decided by only two teams — Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing — whose founding namesakes are already esteemed NASCAR Hall of Fame members.

Regular season champion Kyle Larson and defending series champion Chase Elliott will represent Rick Hendrick’s Chevrolet team. And Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. will represent Joe Gibbs’ Toyota team in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race (3 p.m. on NBC, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) at Phoenix Raceway.
