Former University of Georgia star football player and retired Athens judge Kent Lawrence died Friday morning in Athens after an extended illness.

Kent Lawrence was smitten by the atmosphere of Athens from the first time he visited the town and University of Georgia campus.

“I knew then that I wanted to play for the Bulldogs and someday make my home here,” he once said when we sat down to recall his salad days of the mid-sixties.
