‘Smokey and the Bandit’ anniversary celebration coming to Southern Crescent

JONESBORO — Burt Reynolds spent a good bit of time outrunning the law, racing throughout the Southern Crescent in the summer of 1976.

Reynolds, along with Sally Field and Jackie Gleason, were filming the hit movie “Smokey and the Bandit” using portions of Jonesboro and McDonough as the film’s backdrop. It hit the big screen May 27, 1977.
