A busy fire season in the US has charred more than 2.77 million acres this year, mostly in western states, with active wildfires accounting for 1.5 million acres burned.

There are currently 85 active large wildfires burning across 13 states, according to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). On Monday, five fires reached containment but four more were added to the list of large active fires.
