Reports of California gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger's questionable past surfaced recently and caused me to wonder where we draw the line when it comes to raking a public figure over the coals for every decision he's ever made.

We did it to Bill Clinton – every American knew about Clinton's extramarital affairs and the infamous Monica Lewinsky incident. And I believe the public was justified in its pursuit of information about the president. This guy was leading our country, and while it doesn't matter to me if he smoked pot or cheated on his wife, there is a principle that these things make evident. Cheating on his wife shows us that he doesn't mind telling lies or being sneaky. Smoking pot shows us he may not have a whole lot of respect for the law.
