Hampton celebrates launch of teen council committee

Hampton resident, Christy Palmer, speaks to community leaders, during the unofficial kick-off to a study into the possibility of forming a Hampton Teen Council, where youths would serve in posts under the elected city council.

Dozens of youngsters and community leaders turned out at the Hampton Train Depot for lunch Thursday, in an unofficial kick-off to the City of Hamptons study committee on creating a Teen Council.

The teen council is an idea put forward by Hampton resident, Debbie Palmer, who proposed the measure during a recent city council meeting. Her proposal is a concept for involving young people in local government, in order to promote in them, a sense of community and service.
