GRIFFIN — A Spalding County Sheriff’s Office deputy — Sgt. Marc McIntyre — was shot and later died from his injuries after answering a call Friday morning at a Spalding County home.

The suspect, identified as Todd Lamont Harper, was inside a Deason Street residence when officers responding to a domestic call arrived on the scene. As deputies were crossing the home’s yard, Sheriff Darrell Dix said Harper fired a gun through a window of the home, striking the deputy in the head.
