HAMPTON — The Hampton City Council has approved shifting $300,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds from the widening of West Main Street to upgrades at McBrayer Park.

Shannan Sagnot, Henry County CDBG coordinator, recommended the shift Sept. 27 at a special called meeting of the city. Sagnot said since it appeared that the West Main Street project won’t be moving forward anytime soon, she recommended that the funds be used on another more timely project so that funds aren’t taken away by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which issues the grant.
